South India’s first ever Rock Garden at Malampuzha, Palakkad is a must visit one when on a tour at Malampuzha. The inspiration and creation of these unique artworks comes from the original and India’s first Rock Garden at Chandigarh, created by the famous sculptor Padma Shri Late Nek Chand Saini.
The interesting aspect of this garden is that the attractions here are made entirely out of waste materials, that are recycled and reused. The materials used include broken tiles, granite, bangles, dishware, plastic bottles, cans, bulbs, tube-lights and so on. The cultural and artistic aspects of Kerala have been showcased through the items on display.
Various scenes of Kathakali, Theyyam, Kalaripayattu, Thiruvathirakali, Boat Races, Mahabali etc. have been shown here at the garden. Other than these main displays, one can also find many statues that bring out the various colours of the God’s Own Country of Kerala. The place is also made suitable for birds with its small rain shelters, caves, huts and natural habitats.
This place can be termed as Eco Friendly as it promotes the idea of creating wonders from waste and in living in harmony with the nature. It is located at a distance of 1 kilometer from the Malampuzha Gardens and at a distance of 11 kilometers from the main town of Palakkad.
